In 2005, I saw a documentary titled “The Boys of Baraka.”
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0444608/
It’s an inspiring documentary that shows us all that we KNOW how to teach even the most hard to reach children, but that there is a lack of political and financial will to do so. Since then I started to think about mostly curriculum and holistic education. Parents need to be taught, teachers need to be taught and the students need to be taught.
The most obvious answer is that “they” don’t want to educate certain segments of the population.
I wanted to flesh this blog post out more but I guess I never did.
In the future (God willing) I will post all of the thoughts and ideas I had produced over a 10 year period (since about 2005) for what I initially planned to be a pathfinder charter school I wanted to build tentatively referred to as “My School.”
The primary goal of the school was to produce extremely motivated, resilient, worldly, and self driven young people who would have a far better understanding of how the world really works than the majority of people, and who could thus, better navigate it. They would also have a better understanding of how people (including themselves) “work” and thus be able to maintain healthy relationships, healthy bodies, and work/life balances.
I’m now 52 years old and I’ll try to focus more on creating a curriculum that can help accomplish these goals of producing quality people. I’m a firm believer that “nurturing” and training young people can make them just as competitive with any person(s) with “natural” ability.
